A Better Lobster Law for the State Of Maine

Home Our Plan Facts & Figures News & Opinion FAQ Support About Us

We have developed a plan to either allow lobsters which are harvested in waters far from the coast of Maine to be landed in our state, or reimburse Maine vessels for the revenue lost under Maine state law.  Our objectives are to:

Amend Maine’s bycatch lobster landing law to conform with federal law.
Respect Maine’s traditional nearshore lobster fishery.
Mitigate the primary reason Maine traditional groundfish vessels land their catch outside of the state.
Stabilize Maine’s shoreside groundfish support industries.

More details of the proposal can be found under the Our Plan menu link at the top of the page.

Natural resources such as forestry and fisheries play an important part in Maine's  economy.  We believe citizens should understand the facts surrounding the important public policy question of who is granted the right to benefit from the harvest of a public resource.
