This site is maintained by the Portland Fish Exchange. The Exchange supports amending Maine's bycatch lobster law as one part of an effort to save Maine's traditional groundfish communities. Groundfish landings in Maine have fallen to a record low level, and Groundfishermen have harvested off the Maine coast since the 17th century. Reforming Maine's lobster law is one part of maintaining our state's working waterfront tradition. The Portland Fish Exchange is the nation’s only publicly owned non-profit seafood auction. The Exchange is charged with providing a fair, open and transparent marketplace for buyers and sellers of wholesale seafood, and promoting a sustainable seafood industry in New England. Approximately 90% of Maine’s groundfish catch is sold on the Exchange. For more information about the Exchange, please visit www.pfex.org. We welcome your feedback - click here to send. |
