In late 2006, the National Marine Fisheries Service was asked for any information it might have on the effect of Maine's bycatch lobster landings law on groundfish trip diversion.  The Service was already preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for lobster harvesting, and it provided a brief analysis.  The following section of the EIS was prepared by the Service's Northeast Fishery Science Center.
